Miss Pilar Carmelita Arlando is now Miss Singapore World

Temasek Review

Miss Pilar Carmelita Arlando, 20, who bagged the second runner-up prize at the Miss Singapore World 2009 pageant has been chosen by its organizers ERM World Marketing represent Singapore at the Miss World finals in South Africa.

The original winner, Miss Ris Low, quit her title last month after news of her being under 24 months’ probation for credit card fraud, was reported.

Coincidentally, both Miss Arlando and Miss Ris Low are schoolmates in the same school. Miss Arlando is currently pursuing a Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management at MDIS.

ERM Marketing said they picked Miss Arlando over first runner-up Claire Lee because of her chronic back problem.

Miss Arlando has Chinese, Indian, Portuguese and Dutch ancestry. Her father is a police officer of mixed Chinese-Indian heritage while her mother is a descendant of a Portuguese and a Dutch. Miss Arlando is the only daughter in the family of four.

Besides learning modern dance at the Nanyang Arts Academy such as Salsa, Jazz and Hip Hop, Miss Arlando is also fluent in both English and Malay.

Miss Arlando said she is very touched and proud to represent Singapore in the Miss World finals and she will put in her best efforts on stage to win honor for Singapore.
